Job Description
Title:               Development & Community Engagement
Reports To:    President & CEO
 
Role:
The Development & Community Engagement coordinator is responsible for sponsorship development, membership retention and recruitment and assists in managing the events of the Edmonds Chamber of Commerce, a nonprofit organization of over 440 businesses. The Edmonds Chamber exists to promote the economic vitality of Edmonds through advocacy, leadership, education and community-building events.  Development & Community Engagement coordinator reports to and works in partnership with the President & CEO, staff and volunteers. The position is a full-time, exempt position. Salary range is $50,000 to $60,000 depending on qualifications and experience.  Medical, dental and 401K benefits included.
 
Responsibilities:
1.    Plan, organize and directs the Chamber’s events and activities for members and responds to the needs of members. Implement programs, services, and activities to ensure program objectives are delivered to the membership, sponsors and community at large. (Happy Hour, After Hours, Ribbon Cutting, Luncheon, Breakfast, networking functions)
2.    Develop and maintain a collaborative working relationship between the Chamber and other businesses, government departments, volunteers and community organizations.  
3.    Oversee and manage the Log Cabin Visitor Information Center volunteer activities. Ensure proper staffing, training and documentation of the Log Cabin activities in accordance with best business practices and City/County requirements. 
4.    Oversee, manage and develop the Ambassador program. Ensure proper staffing, training and documentation of the Ambassador activities in accordance with best business practices and Chamber requirements.
5.    Compile information on membership and sponsorship to be presented to the President & CEO and the Board, in both written and verbal reports when requested.
6.    Maintain accurate records, communicate with Chamber staff and utilize both physical and digital record keeping systems to ensure information accuracy and redundancies. Use of an internal server for digital file storage, physical files and our online resources (ChamberMaster, Chamber email, Social Media) to share Chamber information.
7.    Work within guidelines established by the Chamber bylaws and the President & CEO.
8.    Responsible for membership recruitment and retention activities. Build, document and develop a membership development program. Track and deliver membership benefits and work in concert with the President & CEO to identify past and potential members.
9.    Ensure that all member events and membership activities stay on budget and work with the President & CEO and committees to reduce costs and increase sponsorships.
10.  Secure in-kind services with members, in order to reduce operating cost for the office and events. All in-kind services must be well documented with the value of the exchange, signed by both parties and approved by the President & CEO.
11.  Secure sponsorships for all Chamber events and activities. Build, document and develop a sponsorship program. Track and deliver sponsorship benefits, thank and provide post-event reports. Work in concert with the President & CEO to identify past, present and potential sponsors.
12.  Ability to handle and prioritize conflicting complex demands.
13.  Assist in maintaining the Chamber social media presence with relevant content for our membership and overall mission. Engage members, non-members and the public with Chamber news, content and events.
14.  Serve as a liaison with members, sponsors, volunteers and community organizations who work with the Chamber and execute all responsibilities consistent with sound operations and authorized policies and procedures, as directed by the President & CEO.
15.  Be professional, diplomatic, flexible and committed to accuracy and customer service. 
16.  Ability to exercise independent judgment; work under pressure with constant deadlines and multiple priorities; and to coordinate projects in a complex organizational structure while performing optimally and maintaining both quality and quantity of work. 
17.  Promote teamwork and professionalism with the ability to manage in some areas while serving as an assistant in others. Ability to be supportive, patient and teach when someone needs assistance.
18.  Must have strong time management skills with the ability to set your schedule that may require long workdays and the need adjust your days off work.
 
19.  Ability to take on new responsibilities as directed by the President & CEO. 
 
 
Preferred Qualifications and Characteristics:
  1. Minimum of three (3) years' experience working in a nonprofit, development or event management position, including overseeing staff, volunteers, fundraising and events.
  2. Strong project management experience with excellent physical and digital documentation skills.
  3. Academic degree and/or experience in small business, marketing or community development.
  4. Working knowledge of nonprofit organizations or membership based associations.
  5. Demonstrated ability in public speaking, written and oral communication, and interpersonal relations.
  6. Supervisory skills with the ability to plan, organize and delegate.
  7. Experience in sales, fundraising, budgeting and membership development.
  8. Business and leadership savvy and high level of energy.
  9. Technical ability with event management software, Microsoft products, PC & Mac, social media etc…
  10. Significant lifting and carrying (event functions) must be able to lift approximately 40 lbs.
  11. Valid drivers license with a licensed and operable vehicle.
  12. Working knowledge of the Edmonds business community and lifestyle is preferred but not required.

  4. What is your experience with Edmonds, Washington? Describe any involvement in the community as a resident, business owner/employee or a visitor and how that will help you in your new role as the Development & Community Engagement.  If you have no direct experiences in Edmonds, please describe what you know about the Edmonds community.
