Gallery North announces the opening of “Before and After the Wine,” a featured exhibit by Lynnea Mattson and Valerie Mayer, two award winning regional watercolor artists.
“Before and After the Wine” shows the artists’ unique watercolor painting styles. While Lynnea paints in a more controlled manner including more detail and precision in her works, Valerie paints in a looser, fluid style working more spontaneously with broader brush strokes. With their unique style of painting, the artists will display scenes of animals, nature, flowers, and people enjoying the Pacific Northwest and beyond. This is a show promises something for everyone.
Lynnea Mattson’s painting adventure started in 1999 with acrylic, then experimenting with oil painting. In 2005 she was introduced to watercolor and has never looked back. Her love for this unpredictable medium has inspired her to study under several well-known watercolor artists. Lynnea Mattson keeps her painting style fresh through seminars and classes from instructors who challenge her with new ideas and methods. Lynnea strives to be true to her realistic style while stretching herself by using mixed medium and experimenting with new and unique techniques, garnering her several awards.

Lifelong artist Valerie Mayer of Point Roberts, WA has thoroughly enjoyed watercolor painting for more than 30 years. Painting in a loose yet representational style, Val endeavors to share her love of nature - its shorelines and forests, her garden and travels. She carries her camera and sketchbook wherever she travels to capture subjects and places that intrigue her. Valerie Mayer’s paintings are often juried into international shows and she has received many awards.
“My goal as an artist is to create paintings inspired by places I visit and the life encountered along the way. My favorite paintings are those that elicit a smile or prompt a viewer’s fond memory of their experience with the given scene—Valerie Mayer
The artists’ reception “Before and After the Wine” is on Saturday, July 7th from 2 to 5 pm at Gallery North in conjunction with the Edmonds Wine Walk. Meet the artists, enjoy refreshments, and see the exquisite creations Lynnea and Valerie have painted. The artists also will be present at Gallery North during the Edmonds Art walk on Thursday, July 19, from 5-8 pm. This exhibit will be open to the public through July 31, 2018.
