Verdant Health Commission Update
Public Hospital District No. 2 Snohomish County (PHD2) is a governmental entity authorized by the state of Washington to provide hospital and/or health and wellness services in a community (district) of 240,000 people. Governed by five elected officials (commissioners), PHD2 owned and operated Stevens Hospital until September 2010 when it turned over the operation of the hospital to Swedish Health Services, a private nonprofit corporation based in Seattle. Carl Zapora, the former President and CEO of United Way of Snohomish County, became superintendent of PHD2 in February 2011 and is charged with the ongoing administration of PHD2, including oversight of the ownership of the hospital buildings and property, and the launch of PHD2's new program, the South Snohomish County Commission for Health. Carl will be reviewing the details of the change from Stevens to Swedish and the new work being done by the Commission for Health.
